Datatrade Support Ride to the Wall

Ride to The Wall is an annual gathering of motorcyclists from all over the Country and Europe at the Armed Forces Memorial (The Wall) located within the National Memorial Arboretum (NMA) in Staffordshire.

100%

Ride to the Wall is wholly supported by volunteers who share a passion for motorbikes and the purpose of the event is to honour those members of the Armed Forces that can no longer ride by their side. Ride to The Wall has been running for six years and the committee are now heavily into the planning of their seventh ride scheduled for October 4th 2014.

Since its inception seven years ago the event has grown in size and complexity year on year and so far has raised just under £220,000 which goes towards the upkeep of the NMA. In 2013 an estimated 15,000 people and 5000 motorbikes attended the ceremony and this year this figure is anticipated to grow significantly. In June 2013 the effort of the volunteers was recognised by Her Majesty in the Birthday Honours List and Ride to The Wall was awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Services (the MBE for volunteer groups). They were nominated by the NMA who recognised not only the monetary donation but also the work the charity does spreading awareness of the NMA and all it stands for as a National focus of Remembrance.

As the popularity of the event grows, so does the complexity of managing the expected 7000 bikes for 2014 Ride to The Wall. The committee overseeing this year’s Ride were looking for a new way to easily identify registered bikes and attendees for this year’s event.

A Datatrade employee who works with the RTTW committee suggested the use of Zebra Z-Splash wristbands to be attached to the front handlebars of registered bikes. A three week trial with samples attached to the grill of a car through the worst of the rain of winter 2013/2014 proved that the Zebra Z Splash wristband would be more than capable of holding up to whatever the weather decides to throw at them on the day. With their strategic placement and vivid, distinctive design this will enable easy identification of registered bikes on the day. It is also hoped that issuing the Z-Fun wristbands to all registered attendees to wear on their wrists will encourage more people to register for the event officially.

Datatrade used their knowledge of Zebra media and products to source the correct media that is both striking and rugged to meet the aims of the Ride to The Wall committee. They also used their knowledge of the Zebra languages and tools to design and print the wristbands on behalf of Ride to The Wall
