Challenge: No disruption to deliveries post SAP upgrade

The business problem When a leading, national food and drink distributor commissioned a multi-million pound SAP upgrade they couldn’t risk any business interruption, particularly disruption to deliveries. They had a fleet of over 400 warehouse printers and each one needed to continue operating as before.

The business solution The initial phase of the project required Datatrade to check in just one week all the mission critical printers it managed under service contract. We did this by virtual product network (VPN). We also worked closely with software developers pre-upgrade to test that the code for despatch labels and invoicing and the printer drivers were all effective so there would be no disruption to printing capabilities. In the 2-week upgrade period, Datatrade engineers worked alongside software developers to support the main project delivery team, working round the clock at critical ‘go live’ times.

Results The pre-upgrade preparation, checking the entire fleet of mission critical printers and working with the software developers testing code ensured that every lorry and van was able to continue delivering food and drink products to customers without any disruption.
